Removing Saddam Was Right
Excerpt from How America Got It Right, by Bevin Alexander, page 223
The decision to remove Saddam Hussein in the spring of 2003 was completely justified, and the logic of the move, simplicity itself. He represented as severe a threat to the safety of the United States as the al Qaeda terrorists, and he had to be eliminated. To be sure, Saddam was no friend of the terrorists. They want to abolish all secular governments in the Middle East and establish a theocratic dictatorship. But Saddam saw a temporary community of interest with them. Both wanted to drive the West out of the Middle East and both wanted to destroy Israel. The danger was too great that Saddam would provide the terrorists with arms and protection. With an oil-rich state behind him, Saddam could have done great damage himself and could have given tremendous assistance to terrorists.
